SPORRAN

In traditional Scottish dress, the sporran basically serves as a purse for a kilt-wearing man that doesn't have any pockets to stash his stuff. It's a small bag suspended by a chain or cord around the waist, generally made out of leather, hair, or some kind of fur. They can be fairly simple or complexly decorated, as the styles below with engraved metal frames and metallic tassels.
Kate MacPherson has been a taxidermist and sporran-maker for over 20 years in Scotland and finds her materials mostly as roadkill. She has been criticized in the past by various animal- rights campaigners for misusing animals, but I personally find her manner of turning roadkill into sporrans an interesting way of recycling and animal that is already dead and giving it some new purpose. These bags may not be for everyone, but they certainly are interesting. See more HERE.

REBEL YOUTH: KARLHEINZ WEINBERGER

I first read about Karlheinz Weinberger’s photos of Swiss rebel youth in the 60's on The Vintagent, and then from my friend Lori, who forwarded me some images knowing I'd love the homemade accessories and oversized flair. There's no commentary that hasn't been made already on how cool these pics are so I'll just let the pictures do the talking. The complete book of published photos is available at a totally reasonable price from Rizzoli HERE - definitely one to get!

MM6 X OC BAGS

Very cool new bags from the collaboration between Maison Martin Margiela MM6 and Opening Ceremony. I especially love the double bag at top. It's similar to my sketchbook bag, seen HERE, which might be my most favorite and well-used thing I've ever made. These styles are simplicity at its best - nice materials, clean lines, and functional. Read more about the collaboration HERE.

UNDERWEAR OBSESSION

This was part of some project I just unearthed from the depths of my computer. I think it's from about 5 years ago, and I was totally obsessed with the underwear that Jean Yu was making. So I designed some bags inspired by them or something like that (note - I have NOT designed for her in reality, it was just a school project). I cringe a little every time I find something I've made a long time ago. It always looks so novice and I feel like I could have done better. But elementary bag designs aside, I still think Jean Yu makes some mean panties. So if you are reading this, Jean, hit me up and I'll totally trade you some old bag designs for panties, okay?

METAL ON METAL

These welded clutches by Anndra Neen are super cool and reminded me of the bag my friend Maya brought to our Christmas dinner, seen HERE.

Anndra Neen is a line of jewelry and accessories designed by sisters Phoebe and Annette Stephens from Mexico City. I find the chunky metal and exposed rough welds to be quite interesting compared to most other stuff out there in world of accessories/jewelry. And they have really cool matching striped ponchos. ZIPPER GLASSES

Becca sent me this picture from some magazine because she knew I'd love the zipper glasses. I wrote back right away and said I Need Them. But then, there is the price: $365. Anyone who pays $365 for sunglasses is a total idiot, if you ask me. I am all for splurging on nice things occasionally or spending money on something that's a well-used staple. But sunglasses? For some reason pricey sunglasses really piss me off. It's excessive. If you have that much cash to drop on some shades, I hope you are sending some money along to Haiti or something too.

PONY LEGS

Come on, Urban Outfitters. Really? Who is buying these for your store? You're fired.
Thanks Becca!

FOXY

I've always had a weird fascination with fur things that still have faces and body parts on them. Wearing faceless fur is totally different because it's much less personal. There is no denying that your coat and hat once had a heartbeat if you can look into it's eyes...

ALEXIS BLEDEL FOR WWD

In general, I do not scan fashion editorials for my blog, as there are already about 500 million other people that do this and the bases are plenty covered. But I just got a ton of free magazines, so I might as well put up a few that I like.
First up, I always had a bit of weakness for the Gilmore Girls (sorry) so I loved the change of pace for Alexis Bledel, seen here as a leather-clad vixen.

JEANS BELT

A belt buckle that says "jeans" to wear with...jeans? Um, amazing?
I thrifted this buckle in Virginia and it's about to become my new favorite belt in like 2.5 seconds.
