This rope sculpture by Barbara Shawcraft has been hiding at the end of the Embarcadero BART station in SF since 1978. "LEGS" is a 2-story tall glob of fringe and rope that has been knotted, braided, tied, and suspended from the ceiling where it has collected thick layers of dust and grime for the past 30 years. If you're a certain kind of person, you'd hate it, but I think it's amazing. I love that the city of SF actually agreed to put such a gargantuan tangled mess in a public place. I love how it grows out of a dismal dismal corner of the train station like a post-apocalyptic beanstalk. And most of all, I love watching the mixed reactions of passengers discovering it for the first time looming overhead like a dinosaur.
