YAYOI KUSAMA

Thanks, Louisa, for cluing me in that the dotty ladies in the post below are the work of Yayoi Kusama. Though I studied and majored in art history at college, I know embarassingly little about who's who in the art world today (or in the past for that matter). I'd heard vaguely of Kusama, but when I looked into her a little more, I loved what I saw. I want to find a cool book on her, but in the meantime, here's some of my favorites from the world of google images.

She's a self-described crazy lady that's obsessed with polka dots. Amazing!

yay! glad you like her :) pretty amazing stuff... we saw a couple of her pieces in the summer of love exhibit at the whitney a couple of years ago... pretty awesome! a good place to find her book: kinokuniya. oh how i miss japantown!! go see my buddy at the incense store in the hallway/overpass thing if you go.

i saw those firefly lights in person. you go in a super dark mirrored room and you can't see anything but millions of itty bitty light reflections. and if you're not careful you bump into the mirrors. it's kind of trippy and probably a lot more fun if you're under the influence.
