The redo of my workshop is pretty much finished at this point aside from hanging a few things and cleaning up a bit, so I painted a new sign for the door to make it legit. I've had some new patterns in the works for a while, and now that I finally have a tip-top space to work in, I've got not excuse but to get crackin.
The top sign is from my family's old shoe shop, painted somewhere around 1850, and the bottom sign is my new hand-painted one. All I gotta do is hang it on the door and I'm back in business.

DANGER DOG
My search for non-lame "Beware of Dog"signs turned up one gem: the NEPAL DOG website, which showcases and sells free-trade Himalayan folk art, mainly custom "danger dog" portraits hand-painted by artists in Nepal. You can read more about the project, started by Michelle Page of Santa Monica HERE. I love how quirky these portraits are and you can pick from a plethora of breeds. There's also paintings for horses, birds, goats and other animals. So weird and awesome! I'll add a portrait sign to my list of things I want to make next...

ALL AMERICAN FLAG
The art in the lobby of my office building is usually pretty lame. It's on some sort of corporate art-rental program where they switch it up every month or two so you don't get too sick of looking at the same shitty thing all the time. I like the current selection for once - especially the below piece by Stuart Wagner, titled "ALL AMERICAN FLAG", made with Coke, Pepsi, Budweiser cans, and wood ($2000). I hope he drank all that beer and soda himself.

Ken's having a photo show in Japan. I would love to go to this if I could. Photos of riding motorcycles across the US and back and everything in between like flat tires, fast food, and giant dinosaurs. May19-June26. Go if you're near Tokyo or Kanazawa, this is not to be missed!

BETH HOECKEL
I love these collages. Pretty and strange, they make me feel uneasy and I want to know what's going on with those impending clouds. See more of Beth Hoeckle's work HERE.

HOLY HOLLY
Holly Fulton, you crazy girl, your graphic prints are blowing my mind! Being the fanatic I am for any print or accessory involving lips, I did a little jump in the air when I saw these photos over at Sick Sick Sick. Mirror image smoking lips...Oh la la.

Lip repeat
Furry clutch with lips? Okay, why not...
Assorted lip flair...
My personal favorite: Red painted nails and a smoking revolver? WOW, I want I want I want!!!
Legs and painted nails and high heels.
I love that the graphics were inspired by Heinz Edelmann's drawings from the Beatles "Yellow Submarine" album. Trés cool! See the whole collection HERE.

REBEL YOUTH: KARLHEINZ WEINBERGER
I first read about Karlheinz Weinberger’s photos of Swiss rebel youth in the 60's on The Vintagent, and then from my friend Lori, who forwarded me some images knowing I'd love the homemade accessories and oversized flair. There's no commentary that hasn't been made already on how cool these pics are so I'll just let the pictures do the talking. The complete book of published photos is available at a totally reasonable price from Rizzoli HERE - definitely one to get!
